  251. Almost as ahead of their time as Wire - Chairs Missing. Now, the band Wire, that is some mind-blowing shit to be put out in 1978. And this album right here is from 2003? Could've fooled me if you said it was some new band.

  274. Speaking of "ahead of its time", an extremely large majority of people who have heard this album have heard it more than a decade after it was released. This album was pretty much completely unknown before 2009. On RYM, out of 3457 people that rated this, only 18 (0.5%) did so before 2009. Sorry for nerd stats, just wanted to put that into perspective.
  275. So a more interesting thing for me to imagine is: imagine listening to this album (or making it) in 2003, and having it suddenly soar in popularity years later.

  292. The reason it's so unique is because it's an original idea that's had no major influence on any music scene and no replicas spawn due to its lack of recognition. Even albums with similar concepts of electronic/shoegaze like early M83 had a much different approach.
  293.
  294. When you think of most 'ahead of their time' albums, they usually have a knock on affect where similar music gets made in response to it, making them ultimately seem 'of their time' in the end.
  295.
  296. This is one of those rare cases where an original idea goes completely under the radar, and it'll likely stand the test of time for that reason.

  583. I discovered this album at the beginning of this year and it has skyrocketed to being among my favorite records (probably the #1 spot), name another record where you have blisteringly fast dnb followed by one of the greatest shoegaze songs ever, Dsco. or vocal idm that goes to jazz fusion...IN THE SAME TRACK?! Then there's songs like To All the Dancers of The World that defy any and all categorization.
  584.
  585. This record will always have a special place in my heart.

  610. You might enjoy "Fantasma" by Cornelius. Trust me, although it's a completely different blend of genres, if it's eclecticism that you're going for, it's worth a try.

Started listening to Alt J, then I remembered a comment I screenshotted from an Anthony Fantano video of someone recommending Mid Air Thief, and on their video, people were comparing them to Sweet Trip. So glad I ended up here...gonna stay a while.

  654. Just discovered this album within the last few days because Spotify recommended Dsco to me. I liked it a lot; even thought to myself something along the lines of, “Wow, this sounds like a really nice little piece of dance/synth pop that probably came out within the last few years.”
  655.
  656. Then found the full album, and not only was I surprised to hear just how much glitch there was, but I also saw the year this was released, and my mind was utterly blown. This still sounds so incredibly relevant to what is happening within music today, and it’s absolutely incredible. This really is far ahead of its time.

  884. Roberto Burgos (bandleader and principal songwriter of Sweet Trip) was seriously ahead of his time in terms of production. I only recall this kind of experimental, glitchy pop sound being done around the turn of this decade (2008-2012). Even a whopping 16 years later, this album is still so far ahead of any album I've heard before and since that it's almost too unfair to bear for a while. Utterly transcendent beyond simple, arbitrary review scores.
  885.
  886. This was post-internet music a decade before it was cool. Also, I've been noticing that there's quite some Shibuya-kei influence on some of the songs on this album, like Dsco, Chocolate Matter, and Fruitcake and Cookies, which all have a distinct "Cornelius-esque" tinge to them in general songwriting and instrumentation. I do hear Stereolab-like undertones on International and Velocity, but most strongly on Design : 2 : 3, which is only, like, the greatest album closer ever fucking produced.

1321. I love this album so much. i had this recommended and im so grateful for it. i need more of this type of music! i wanna hear more music that sounds like the tracks fruitcakes and cookies, sept, design : 1. i love those beautiful dreamy soft sort of minimal melodies with this glitchy percussion that just sounds so futuristic. And the vocals on these songs too it just has this vibe! can anyone give me some recommendations? genre, artists and songs similar to these or just some information about this? Thanks a lot :~>

1717. Screw this guy for making fun of dissolute companies; 8chan's host in this case did not support freedom of speech. A website is not liable for its user's actions so long as it is not knowingly supporting illegal actions. 8chan's host destroyed a unique diverse community; data loss is sad. Also, I'm not a Nazi; I'm just using this email address for privacy reasons.
