Now, the band Wire, that is some mind-blowing shit to be put out in 1978. And this album right here is from 2003? Could've fooled me if you said it was some new band. 7 Killmetbh Killmetbh 2 years ago I mean there was stuff like Aphex Twin and others doing this kind of skippy hyperactive electronic music, but this adds a whole different layer of song writing and melody. 10 Danny Hengel Danny Hengel 1 year ago lol we traded casette tapes my guy. before internet it was all treasure hunting 1 fast and bulbous fast and bulbous 1 year ago >"still feels fresh" >"after over a decade" >implying albums usually don't last that long Wew 1 Horus Khan Horus Khan 1 year ago (edited) Speaking of "ahead of its time", an extremely large majority of people who have heard this album have heard it more than a decade after it was released. This album was pretty much completely unknown before 2009. On RYM, out of 3457 people that rated this, only 18 (0.5%) did so before 2009. Sorry for nerd stats, just wanted to put that into perspective. So a more interesting thing for me to imagine is: imagine listening to this album (or making it) in 2003, and having it suddenly soar in popularity years later. 22 Jared Hicks Jared Hicks 1 year ago it feels extremely fresh in 2018 L00Gi L00Gi 1 year ago @Camel Jam it's got that early 2000's PS1 era sound. Gabriele Gagliardi Gabriele Gagliardi 10 months ago Not so fresh at all if you were into autechre, aphex twin or venetian snares. konkey dong konkey dong 8 months ago The reason it's so unique is because it's an original idea that's had no major influence on any music scene and no replicas spawn due to its lack of recognition. Even albums with similar concepts of electronic/shoegaze like early M83 had a much different approach. When you think of most 'ahead of their time' albums, they usually have a knock on affect where similar music gets made in response to it, making them ultimately seem 'of their time' in the end. This is one of those rare cases where an original idea goes completely under the radar, and it'll likely stand the test of time for that reason. 9 lucas salas lucas salas 5 months ago y'all should read 'ghosts of my life' by the great mark fisher concars1234 concars1234 5 months ago I was 8 years old Julius Songling Julius Songling 5 months ago 2003. I only recall this kind of experimental, glitchy pop sound being done around the turn of this decade (2008-2012). Even a whopping 16 years later, this album is still so far ahead of any album I've heard before and since that it's almost too unfair to bear for a while. Utterly transcendent beyond simple, arbitrary review scores. This was post-internet music a decade before it was cool. Also, I've been noticing that there's quite some Shibuya-kei influence on some of the songs on this album, like Dsco, Chocolate Matter, and Fruitcake and Cookies, which all have a distinct "Cornelius-esque" tinge to them in general songwriting and instrumentation. I do hear Stereolab-like undertones on International and Velocity, but most strongly on Design : 2 : 3, which is only, like, the greatest album closer ever fucking produced. 3 Doggomann Doggomann 6 months ago I don't know what im listening to but i kinda love it 3 Gay Cowboy Gay Cowboy 2 years ago I just keep coming back to this album man. And the vocals on these songs too it just has this vibe! can anyone give me some recommendations? genre, artists and songs similar to these or just some information about this?
