  1. THE BATTLE OF THE ALAMO, THE TEXAS REVOLUTION, AND THE ''DONBAS OF THE UNITED STATES''.
  2. The article was made by page AndyLa History Chamber.
  3. I. Texas Revolution and Battle of The Alamo:
  4. The Texas Revolution is an important chapter in American history, marked by the Texas struggle for independence from Mexico. The revolution began in October 1835, after a decade of political and cultural conflict between the Mexican government and the growing population of Anglo - American settlers in Texas (then Mexican territory) who had migrated there since the 1810s after the Mexican war of independence.
  5. The Battle of The Alamo from February 23rd to March 6th, 1836 was an important milestone in this revolution. A small force of Texas revolutionary troops, including figures who later entered American popular culture such as Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie, defended the mission — fortress Alamo against the more overwhelming Mexican army led by General Santa Anna.
  6. Despite their efforts, the Texans were eventually overwhelmed and the battle ended in defeat on the part of the Texans. The event that took place at Fort Alamo became a call to rally Texas forces and strengthen support for the revolution, which ultimately pushed Texas to gain independence. The Texas Declaration of Independence was published in the fiercest days of the Battle of the Alamo, and the Republic of Texas was born and short-lived — for 10 years from 1836 to 1846.
  7. II. The American - Mexican War and the US annexation of Texas:
  8. The American - Mexican War, which took place from 1846 to 1848, was a direct consequence of the Texas Revolution. After gaining independence, Texas sought to annex to the United States, leading to tensions between the country and Mexico. The annexation of Texas by the United States in 1845 aggravated the situation, sparking the armed conflict between the two nations.
  9. During this war, the Americans won a decisive victory, Mexico was forced to cede a large amount of territory to the United States through the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo on February 2nd, 1848, including the present-day states of California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona and parts of Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming. Mexico has lost a total of more than 1 million square kilometres of territory to the United States.
  10. In spite of important historical significance, the Texas Revolution and the American War - Mexico did not receive the same level of attention as other major conflicts. This little-known stuff may be due to the fact that time has passed so long and the overshadowing of these events by wars and revolutions of greater global significance. In addition, media about these events has been influenced by politics and national interests, especially by the countries with the strongest media power in the world such as the United States.
  11. III. "Texas of Russia":
  12. In 2014, after the Maidan revolution, Ukraine transitioned from a pro-Russian government to a pro-Western government, sparking conflict with the Russian population in the Donbas region. Since then began a political and ethnic conflict that so far there is no possibility for an end of bloodshed.
  13. The Battle of Donetsk Airport, which took place during the war in Donbas, had certain similarities to the Battle of the Alamo. Both involve the protection and last-stand of a strategic position against overwhelming enemy forces. The Battle of Donetsk Airport took place twice, in the first time (5/2014) Ukrainian troops took control of the airport and in the second time (September 2014), pro-Russian separatists recaptured it. The 2 battles saw fierce fightings between the Ukrainian Armed Forces and pro-Russian separatists, leading to heavy casualties for both sides and contributing to shaping the situation of the war.
  14. Russia's opening of a military campaign and pouring troops into Ukraine in February 2022 is also a direct consequence of the Donbas War. On September 30th of the same year, Russia officially annexed the areas it and its allied forces occupied. All of these developments seem to echo what happened in the southern US during the timespan of 1835-1846.
  15. Moreover, the fact that Russia recognised independence and annexed separatist states in Donbas also reflected the US recognisation and annexation of the Republic of Texas. Both of these territorial annexations were driven by the political interests and ambitions of the great powers, leading to tensions and conflicts with their neighbours and in the world. It can be said that for countries directly involved in the wars, Donbas is the ''Texas of Russia'', or vice versa, Texas is the ''Donbas of the United States''.
  16. In the context of ongoing territorial conflicts and disputes in the world, it is necessary to recognise the complexity of historical events and the influence of politics in recounting them. By understanding these, we will gain insight into the profound impact of historical events on the present and future.
