  1.  Kenya, Tanzania Migration Safari
  2.
  3.
  4.  The great wildebeest migration is a dramatic event that sees over a million wildebeests, zebras and gazelles moving between Serengeti National Park (Tanzania) and Kenya's Masai Mara game reserve in search of greener pastures.
  5.  The annual event gives photographers rewarding opportunities to take pictures of what is arguably the world's largest wildlife parade.
  6.  A great migration photo safari to either Masai Mara or the Serengeti does not follow a fixed time-table. This is because the migration is spontaneous - beginning soon after the pasture in the Serengeti has been depleted. However, if you visit the Masai Mara between June and August your chances of watching the event are extremely high.
  7.  Between June and August, wildebeest, zebras and gazelles congregate at the Mara River in readiness to cross over the hippo and crocodile invested river. The animals are at first unwilling to swim across, but soon a brave wildebeest jumps into the river prompting the rest to follow suit.
  8.  A deadly stampede, a major highlight of a great migration photo safari, usually occurs as the wildebeest plunge into the river. This leaves thousands of animals dead, marking the start of a feast for crocodiles and vultures that feed on the carcases for weeks. The lucky animals cross over to the Masai Mara where they feed on the green foliage until early December when pasture in the Masai Mara gets depleted and fresh grass comes out in the Serengeti.
  9.  A tour of the Serengeti or the Mara can be combined with a safari to Rwanda where tourists get the opportunity to, among other things, get up close with endangered mountain gorillas. A gorilla safari Rwanda offers a rare chance to view the primates, whose global population numbers less than 600 individuals, as they go on with their daily life within their natural habitat.
  10.  The safari usually start at Ruhengeri town, which is located about 80km from the capital Kigali, and proceeds to the Virunga National Park, north-west of Rwanda. Visitors trek for up to four hours before they finally see the primates moving unhurried beneath the forest canopy. Despite their huge stature (three times the size of an average man), mountain gorillas are quite friendly and are not easily annoyed by the presence of human beings.
  11.  A permit is mandatory for gorilla safari Rwanda. It can be obtained at the Rwanda Development Board Tourism and Conservation Office. Be sure to book your permit at least three months before your trip to avoid disappointment.
  12.  The dry period, June to September and December to February, is the best time to go on a gorilla tracking adventure. During this season the ground is less slippery and the vegetation is thinner - allowing you better views of the gorillas
