Minecraft's massive Super Duper Graphics Pack is gone after two years of delays. Mojang has pulled the visual overhaul after deciding that it was "too technical and complex" to implement. The developers were not satisfied with the performance of the upgrade across platforms and decided to scrap the project instead of delivering the same quality.

The pack was intended to enable 4K on Xbox One X and to include more sophisticated visual effects like highlights, atmospheric effects, and water.
There is a chance for an update to the graphics in the near future. Mojang said it was "looking at different ways" to provide Minecraft an updated appearance and that it would soon be able to announce news about improving the game's performance for different platforms. The game won't stay with its existing look (however charming it may be) for long however it could be a long time before it catches up with the latest technology.
